In a way it will be sad to leave the hotel in Rome--the one desk clerk is everything one could wish for in an Italian male--the good looks, the ready wit, the flirting (even with older women). However, we are ready for the next step. Cruising here we come.
We were assured the trip to the port would take 2 hours. That was in Italian time. It took the bus closer to 3 hours. We were still in plenty of time to check in and have a light lunch. Check-in went quickly, and no one looked askance at us--they gave us our ids and let us on board, anyway.
We had our first "report-to-your-lifeboat" drill just before the ship cast off. It's a good thing we weren't really sinking as long as it took some people to get to where they were supposed to be. The three of us, of course, were model citizens.
After reading the first day's list of activities available we can assure you that you will be hearing nothing from us about rock wall climbing. Other dangers we are are avoiding are ice skating and the karioke. Trivia questions are shaky territory--the jury is still out.
Supper invovled some pretty wonderful chocolate cherry cake--actually a fudgy chocolate with a cherry sauce.
