Breaking up is hard to do

Vatcan museum
Monday, July 11

Jan left this morning for the states. We wish her well on her journey. I'm sure she'll report on it as soon as she's home and recovered somewhat.   [Just received the e-mail that she is "Home again, home again, jiggity jig."]   Mary and I had an extra hour before we disembarked . We found our two rolling bags without any problem, but had to spend some time looking for my backpack--it had been placed in a completely different pile of luggage. We must have picked the express porter because he whizzed right through the crowd to the front of the line and out to the bus. With permission of the driver he actually loaded our bags on the bus.

We are NOT staying at the Hotel Navona, as expected, but at a sister hotel a few blocks away. Mary thought we would be at the Gharrendella (or however you spell that chocolate), so I anticipated sweet dreams, but it turns out to be the Hotel Zanardella. This means that our four nights in Rome were spent in three different hotels! Maybe we should be getting a complex.  The charming manager from the other hotel was here to flirt with us again.

After 4 cheese pizza and gelatto for lunch we trekked off to the Vatican Museum to see some of the stuff we missed the first time around. We never did find the Etruscan exhibit--those Etruscan people are remarkably elusive. But we did wander through the Ancient Egyptian exhibits which were much less crowded than the more popular rooms.
even the floors are interesting

None of the photos are of the Cistine Chapel no pictures allowed inside.

Gelatto report:

Chocolate 4.75

Hazelnut 4.5

Cherry 5
Raefella - takes up the whole wall - actually 4 walls and the ceiling
